Fix the phone in a mount
The rear camera films the road, the front camera the driver. The app shows when the cameras, GPS and face detection are ready.
Drive as in the test
The driver does not touch the phone. The instructor or parent uses the big buttons to mark only what the sensors cannot see: interventions and handling tasks.

Would the drive have passed, four assessment areas, observations on a map and progress compared with previous drives. Share as a link with a parent or instructor.
The app sees what the examiner looks at
Speeds and limits, acceleration and braking, indicator use, pedestrian crossings and junctions on the route – the app measures them itself, without anyone marking anything.
The driver camera notices whether you check the mirror and blind spot before a lane change and whether your eyes stay on the road. No face image is stored.
The assessment uses the same criteria as the driving test: four areas, a 1–5 scale, the same fail rules.
The driver drives, the instructor marks
During the drive there are no camera views on screen, only a timer, the speed and big buttons for the instructor: Instructor intervened, Near miss, Stalled, Kerb and the handling tasks. The app's instructions say exactly when to press – and when not to.
The phone locks to landscape for the drive. The driver never touches the phone.

Questions
How many pass the driving test on the first attempt?
Fewer than half: in 2025, 49 % of first-attempt category B tests were passed. About 30,000 retests are taken each year, each costing the test fee (110 €) and often extra lessons. Read how the test works and what is assessed (in Finnish) →
What is assessed in the driving test?
Four areas graded 1–5: vehicle handling, consideration for other road users, anticipating traffic situations and self-management. The test is failed if any area scores 1, if two areas score 2, or if a mistake immediately endangered safety. Inssi assesses a practice drive on the same criteria. Full criteria (in Finnish) →
Failed the driving test – what now?
A new test can be booked right away; there is no mandatory waiting period. The key is to read the examiner's written feedback and practise exactly the areas that scored 1 or 2 – in drives as long as the test. Guide after a failed test (in Finnish) →
Is the result the same as in the driving test?
The assessment uses the same criteria as Traficom's driving-test guideline, but it is a practice aid, not an official assessment, and it does not guarantee a pass. In the real test the examiner also judges things the app cannot see – which is why the instructor's own eye still matters most.
How does the app know the speed limits and crossings?
The route is matched to the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency's official road data (Digiroad), which provides speed limits, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights. The road camera confirms the situations.
Is the driver's face recorded?
No. Only head-pose angles are computed on the phone from the driver camera image, and only those are sent to the server. The road camera video stays on the phone; it is not sent anywhere.
Which phones are supported?
iPhone XS/XR (2018) and newer, iOS 17 or later. An Android version is planned.
Can the app be used at a driving school?
Yes. The instructor uses the same buttons as with a learner permit, and the student sees their progress drive by drive.
Where is the data stored?
